Ms. Mengji Chen is the Technical Lead for the Research, Ethics and Innovation unit at the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific. She leads regional initiatives on health research ecosystem strengthening, research ethics, innovation, and the responsible governance of artificial intelligence in health. Her work supports Member States in creating enabling environments for innovation and developing practical tools, frameworks, and regional public goods that promote safe, effective, and equitable use of emerging technologies.
Prior to joining WHO, Ms. Chen worked across the public and private sectors in health innovation, digital health, data analytics, and community engagement in the United States, India, and China. She co-founded a predictive analytics startup and held leadership positions in digital health companies.
Ms. Chen holds a Master of Science in Health Science from Brandeis University and a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Communication from Tsinghua University.
