Dr Jenn Lacy-Nichols is a senior research fellow in commercial determinants of health and an NHMRC Emerging Leadership fellow. Her research seeks to understand the relationships between corporations, politics and health. Her current program of work centres on the revolving door, and addresses questions of transparency and disclosure, opportunities for systematically monitoring corporate political activities, ethical dilemmas faced when researching powerful organisations, and pathways to strengthen regulation to address conflicts of interest. Her aspiration is to support government legislation that makes her research program obsolete, as political lobbying will be transparent, effectively regulated, and harmful corporate influence will be minimised (she confident her research will be needed indefinitely). Jenn completed a PhD at the University of Melbourne in 2019 that analysed the soft drink industry’s political strategy to position itself as ‘part of the solution’ to obesity. She is a member of Transparency International Australia, the Global CDoH Action Network and Healthy and Sustainable Food Systems Australia. She was one of the lead authors on the 2023 Lancet series on Commercial Determinants of Health and a member of WHO’s expert group on Commercial Determinants of Health. Jenn loves public speaking, thinking up new research projects and beautiful data visualisations. When she’s not at work she’s probably camping, hiking, or reading on the couch after getting her daughter to bed.
