Báltica Cabieses is Full Professor of Social Epidemiology at the Instituto de Ciencias e Innovación en Medicina, Universidad del Desarrollo, Chile, where she founded and co-directs the Centre of Global Intercultural Health and directs the WHO/PAHO Collaborating Centre on the Health of Migrants and Refugees. She is Honorary Professor at the University of Hong Kong and a Senior Visiting Scholar at the University of York. Trained as a nurse-midwife, she holds a Master's in Epidemiology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a PhD at UoY UK. Her work on social inequalities in health, migrant and refugee health, interculturality and participation in health policy comprises over 70 research projects and more than 220 peer-reviewed publications. She founded and co-coordinates the Chilean research network on health and migration (RECHISAM), founded and co-led Lancet Migration for Latin America, and has advised PAHO, the International Organization for Migration, IDB, WHO, IOM, and different ministries and health services in Chile.
